Marketing Screen

Q: How do I select the set of customers who are assigned to a newsletter list, so that I can print labels, envelopes, or send bulk email?
A: There are a number of ways. Here are two methods:

campaigns tab 1. Use the Campaigns field for Newsletter subscriptions. On the 'Campaigns' tab of the Customers Screen, there are two subscription list selectors: Campaigns and Newsletters.
Marketing Campaigns can easily be selected or created from the Marketing Screen. You could make a marketing campaign that is named after your newsletter. So you could ignore the Newsletter subscription list, and just use the Campaigns list for both advertising campaigns and newsletters.

The Targeted Marketing Screen will allow you to target a set of customers to be assigned to a Marketing Campaign. Once assigned, that group can be accessed with just a click.

Note that, the only way to send bulk email to a group of customers is through the use of Marketing Campaigns.

2. Use the Newsletter subscription selector on the Customers Screen to assign customers to any newsletter lists. Then, to find that group, in order to print envelopes or labels, just enter FIND mode, and type the newsletter name into the 'newsletter' field on the Campaigns tab of the Customers Screen.

Note: the following instructions only apply to MB Pro version 3.0.8, or later.

Q: What if I've already assigned a lot of customers to a Newsletter list, and now I want to send them a bulk email? How do I do that?
A: It is possible to convert any newsletter subscription list to a campaigns list.
Here is the preparation for the procedure:
0. Prior step before starting: Make sure that all records are selected. ie, there is no Current Action Set. If there is, click on the red words 'Action Set' above the Browse Arrows, to remove the CAS.
1. Select the 'Tag 1' field (from the Label tab of the Customers Screen) by clicking into it. Click it until the 'X' disappears.
2. Then, keeping the curser in the 'Tag 1' field, select the menu selection 'Paste to CAS' from the File menu. Choose the REPLACE option to replace '' (nothing) into every 'Tag1' field. In other words, we're clearing out this field in every record first, to make sure that the following procedure will select only the records that we want.

Here is the procedure:
1. Enter FIND mode, and search for all customers assigned to the newsletter. This will create a Current Action Set composed of all the newsletter subscribers.
2. Select the 'Tag 1' field (an 'X' field on the Label tab of the Customers Screen.) Click into the field so that an 'X' appears in it.
3. Select menu command 'Paste to CAS'. Choose the REPLACE option to place an 'X' into every 'Tag 1' field in the CAS.
Now every customer that is subscribed to the newsletter list will have 'X' in the 'Tag 1' field.
4. Go to the Marketing Screen, form view, and create a campaign and name it after your newsletter.
5. Click on the 'View Target' button to go to the Targeted Marketing screen.
6. Select the filter 'Tag 1' and set it to 'yes'.
7. Click on the 'See Results' button. The number of records targeted should equal the number of subscribers to your newsletter.
8. Click on the 'Done' button. This will switch the screen back to the Marketing Screen, and all of the customers subscribed to your newsletter will be listed under the 'Customers in this Campaign' button.
Now you could click on the 'Send email' button on the Bulk e/Mail tab to send a bulk email to all these targeted customers.
Or, now that they are saved as part of this campaign, clicking on the 'Customers in the Campaign' button, will always select this group of customers so that you can print letters, envelopes or mailing labels.
